If you own a DVD is it against copyright laws to post clips from your DVD onto youtube?

If let’s say for example you have a DVD of Family Guy. Can you put your dvd onto the computer and then take clips from that dvd and add them into Windows Movie Maker and make a video and then upload that video onto youtube? Is this against copyright if let’s say you own the DVD?

When you buy a DVD, you buy the disc and the right to *watch* its contents. You don’t buy the right to manipulate, copy or upload any part of it to the internet. Doing so is a violation of copyright.

of course its illegal, just because you own the DVD does not mean you own the copyright of the show.

Yes. Even if you paid for that copy it is meant for private viewing and is not to be duplicated in any way.
